Player looks d20 and puts it in brackets after actions. 3. Player acts accordingly to the d20 number. Pop-up would be most unwelcome, especially if people wouldn't be aware of it first and their blocker would block it, and then you'd have to explain to them to allow pop-ups (which they might be disinclined to do in the first place) and then do again...

Plus, if a roll is not required, the GM could let it all be up to creativity... But, in some cases, not having the option will highly restrictive. One roll for all those? What about if the GM would prefer the roll they get when the page is refreshed, looked at first, or while editing? I, for one, allow the player to use the best of the three in most scenarios... but an auto-roller would be far more preferred.
